How to Measure for Dresses
1. Length Measurement
Measure from the highest point of your shoulder straight down to where you want the hem to fall. Gothic dresses vary greatly in length from mini to floor-length.
2. Bust Measurement
Measure around the fullest part of your bust. For corset-style dresses, this measurement is crucial as the bodice will be fitted.
3. Waist Measurement
Find your natural waistline (narrowest part). Many gothic dresses feature corset lacing or fitted waists, so accuracy here is essential.
4. Shoulder Width
For dresses with structured shoulders or off-shoulder designs, measure from shoulder point to shoulder point across your back.
5. Sleeve Length (if applicable)
For long-sleeved gothic dresses, measure from shoulder to wrist. Many feature bell sleeves, lace cuffs, or dramatic flares.

Corset Dresses
Features built-in corsetry with boning and lacing. Waist measurement is critical. Can typically adjust 5-8cm with lacing.
Victorian & Lolita
Full skirts with petticoat-friendly design. Check length carefully as these often run longer. Bust and waist are key measurements.
Bodycon & PVC
Tight-fitting with minimal stretch. Size up if between sizes. These show every curve, so consider your comfort level.
Asymmetric & High-Low
Variable hem lengths. We list the shortest and longest points. Front may be significantly shorter than back.
Off-Shoulder & Cold-Shoulder
Shoulder and bust measurements crucial. Many have elastic or adjustable straps for security.
Maxi & Floor-Length
Consider your height and heel preference. Many can be hemmed or have adjustable trains.

Dress Styling & Fit Tips
- Layering: Many gothic dresses are designed to be worn with corsets over or under, crinolines, or petticoats.
- Adjustable Features: Look for back lacing, side zippers, adjustable straps - these give you fitting flexibility.
- Length Considerations: Platform boots can add 5-15cm to your height - factor this into dress length.
- Bust Support: Corset-style dresses often have built-in support. Regular bras may not be needed or may show.
- Movement: Consider if you'll be dancing, sitting, or walking in the dress. Tight styles may restrict movement.
- Seasonal Considerations: Velvet and long sleeves for winter, mesh and shorter styles for summer events.
